A local's perspective.....

It was great to see so many friendly faces at the first Ball Street Deli. Ball Street Bridge looked beautiful lit up and lined with colourful market stalls and the street was full of families, which was fantastic to see. We met with many friends, both from the Kelham Island area and from further afield.

Whilst catching up over hot coffees and mulled wine (welcome warmers on a cold day), we listened to the live bands playing outside the Bhaji Shop. 

After chatting with friends, we browsed the market stalls selling local Sheffield produce. The butcher’s stall was very popular, as was the Depot Bakery’s freshly baked bread. We decided on some delicious chutneys from the Urban Deli, some olives and black pudding. Being so near to Christmas, we also stocked up on some Sheffield Gin from the Broadfield and some champagne truffles from Le Bon Vin to give as gifts to friends and family.

It was interesting to speak to the River Stewards at their stall and learn more about conservation in the local area. Chatting with asylum-seekers at the stall for the charity ASSIST made me aware, and proud, that our neighbourhood is also welcoming and supporting vulnerable groups.

Before we left, we couldn’t resist buying some fresh pies from The Broadfield’s stall to eat for dinner that night. Both the vegetarian and the meat pie were delicious! 

It was wonderful to see our community come together for the first Ball Street Deli event.
