About KINCA

KINCA  (Kelham Island and Neepsend Community Alliance) is a charity made up of a diverse group of local residents and businesses , who are all volunteers and who have come together with the common aim of helping make Kelham Island and Neepsend, a better place to live, work and socialise. Their focus and priorities are to help make our neighbourhood safe, clean, sustainable, and enjoyable. A fun place to be.

Since its inception in 2000, the volunteer committee, with suitable skills and humour, have helped steer the alliance and now have small teams of committed people to manage a growing number of projects, all designed to help make Kelham Island and Neepsend, a better place to live and work.

Not since the 1930’s have many people lived in Kelham. Now with a growing population of over 5,000 residents, the key initiatives try to focus on protection of the environment, both built and green; with regular litter picks and suppression of graffiti to keep our neighbourhood clean; social inclusion - a place for everyone to live and work with the Kelham Island Community Market a local event for people to come together; Green Kelham programme - helping to maintain and protect the river and wildlife that forms the heart of our district;

Arts and Heritage - working with KIAC (Kelham Island Arts Collective) who have been instrumental in developing the fabulous art on our streets which makes for a colourful and uplifting contribution to our neighbourhood; the establishment of a statutory Neighbourhood planning forum KINNF, helping to shape the ongoing regeneration of our area through consultation.

We have a wealth of talent, experience and enthusiasm within our community. We come together to try and help shape and maintain this unique place. Pandemics permitting, we meet regularly, formally and socially and are joined by local councillors, police and guest speakers, who provide information and listen to local issues and concerns as well as participate in many of our activities.

Your area needs you.

We are always looking for new people and fresh ideas so please join us. It is free to join and our ethos is that volunteering should be primarily fun and rewarding. You can also do as little or as much as you like. Join in and help to make Kelham & Neepsend an even better community.
